What is Choosepaws?

A store and community combined with the focus on treating dogs right in a good vibes manner. What does this actually mean more specifically? Basically, it means our motive is to highlight the positive aspects of dog care and dog training by giving people a new method called positive reinforcement which is the opposite of what Ceasar Milan is training and teaching.

This includes selling things that are not painful or used to scare a dog into obedience.

So then, what is Positive reinforcement?

Maybe you've never really heard about the term at all or maybe you've heard it before but never really looked it up or understood it? Let's go into a little detail on the topic.

Most of you already know who Ceasar Milan is and how his teachings work so we won't go into the detail there so let's just immediately talk about how positive reinforcement works and why positive reinforcement is the superior method for people who actually want to treat their pawed animal like they deserve.

As it sounds, this method uses only positive treatments when caring for a dog, so there is no violence or painful equipment to rule over the dog with fear and pain like many people nowadays still attempt to do thinking it's the only way and best way to teach a dog to obey.

That is not the case, training your dog should be fun both for you and your 4-foot friend. This is why you should use candy and other things to reinforce the good behavior your dog showcases.

Now you might be thinking: "But, how would I then stop the bad behavior?" Well if you get candy for your good behavior and you get nothing for your bad behavior, would you yourself really keep up the bad behavior whilst getting nothing of reward for that? Just remember, there is a lot of ways to reward a dog, for example by giving them the attention they are seeking. So if you think you're not rewarding your dog by giving them a punishment for being bad then you are wrong, unfortunately.

What can you do instead?

You can use positive reinforcement with your dog. But remember if they are doing something wrong, then you need to really think about what is a good way to solve this, like for example if your dog is eating things laying around you need to either do one of the following: Make it impossible for the dog to even go that far so that it can't scavenger any food. You could set up some kind of fence for the kitchen. Or you could train positive reinforcement really well so that it becomes second nature not to steal any food.

You could even train your little furry friend to not eat dropped food.

Thanks for taking your time in reading our introduction.
